MINI Service Log

I love my MINI Cooper. 
I love to open up all the windows and the sunroof on a nice day and drive for as long as time permits.
I love to take the curves as fast as I dare.
I love the sound of my MINI when I hit the gas pedal.
I just love to drive my car.  It feels good. It makes ME feel good.  
There are many days when the stress is overwhelming and taking a drive down one of the back windy roads in my car saves my sanity. The world melts away and I'm just left with me and my car barreling down the road.

So... that being said... my car isn't perfect. And that's fine... as long as it is fixable I'm not one to complain to much.

Below is a log of all repairs done on my car to date.  I got one of the first CVT's around.  What does that mean?  Well... it means I'm the guinea pig for repairs now doesn't it?

08/19/2002 5137 Sunroof not working at all - will not open or close. Customer states sunroof inoperative when using the switch. Sunroof functioning properly. Unable to duplicate condition. (This is complete crap because when I drove in the overhead switch wouldn't work, when I left it did - they fixed the button. However since that day, the overhead spot where the button is rattles INCESSANTLY and has driven me nuts. Not sure I like this alternative). Yes

Rear lid lock poorly adapted/fitted. Adjusting luggage compartment lid lock (bottom section of boot lid lock). Rear trunk cylinder not synchronized. Reinitialized lock cylinder. No

09/13/2002 6421 Rear Hatch doesn't close AT ALL. Stuck open. Tied the damn thing shut. (5) SOP Rear hatch latch. Read lid lock sticking/jammed. Localizing body problem(s). Removing and installing or replacing luggage compartment lid lock and lockplate. No ground on plug, #2. Bad pin inside actuator w+diagnosis time R&R trunk rear trim cover, R&R trunk lead switch, test wire from switch to actuator. Found: No ground on plug for actuator-PIN#2 Fixed connector reinstall pin#2. Problem #1 is fixed Problem #2: cause corrosion pin #2 inside the actuator broken. Replaced rear latch with actuator. Yes

10/16/2003 25928 Fuel gauge is not working - flips from zero to full to somewhere in between while driving. The miles-to-go till out of gas computer read out also completely blank. Fuel gauge is very erratic - will show empty and then jump to full. Sometimes okay. Calculator is also wrong. Showed 40 miles and owner was able to put 12.9 gal in. Checking function of instrument cluster (with diagnosis and information system). No problems found w/wt checked w/gt1, no faults are stored for the current complaint; checked the connections @ the instrument cluster (no problems found); recoded the KOMBI (instrument cluster). [May I personally note that my cluster was weird for a week after this - and the fuel gauge went wacky just the next week - but then it seemed to settle down and sort of work so decided not to bring it back. I don't think their fix actually did anything, but it currently works and I would rather NOT have them recoding it again for no reason]. No
10/16/2003 25928 Engine stalls and stutters in slow traffic. Under 15 MPH engine is very jumpy. Engine will stall in drive and stutter in slow traffic. CAUSE: Tension/torsion spring for throttle body broken. Replacing complete throttle valve assembly. Programming DME data status. Interrogating fault memory in diagnosing system.  Faulty EDK motor/DME software error W checked w/GT1, No faults are stored in the DME for the current complaint; checked the production date of the EDK motor per SI M12 04 02; R & R EDK motor based on the production date (03/26/03) & based on the complaint; reprogrammed the DME; recoded the motronic; reset the DME & CVT gear adaptations; re-learned the CVT gear by performing the CVT clutch adaptation procedure; test drove the vehicle; the vehicle is operating properly at this time. Yes

01/05/2004 30038 Whistling sound coming from front windshield. There is a whistling sound from front end when going above 50 MPH. Worse at 70 MPH. 01/05/2004 30038 Washer fluid not working below freezing. Washer fluid does not work when outside temp is below freezing. Could not duplicate concern, it's too warm out. Add concentrate to washer tank.  Yes
02/13/2004 31904 Whistling sound coming from front windshield (2nd time this has occurred). Molding was off and flapping in the wind. What they wrote on the ticket and what really happened are a little different. Here is what they wrote: Windshield has a stress crack - replace per Chuck.  Loaner MINI.  Here is what happened: Took car in because whistling sound coming from front windshield. Molding was out of whack. In process of replacing molding, they broke the windshield. Replaced windshield. Still waiting for a piece of the plastic molding though - on order. Due in Tue/Wed. Pending
